Location: Bludhaven Date: May 23rd 2017 Time: 1:00 EST Mentor was hardly a term that Dick felt comfortable with, and any of the young heroes he helped out were hardly what he'd call proteges. No, it was just a fact that Nightwing felt his skill-set was something to be shared, especially for heroes of a similar nature to himself, and the entire Bat-Family, as they called themselves occasionally. So from time to time, Bludhaven's personal hero would take on a younger hero to learn what they needed to. Many heroes lacked in something essential, Dick still lacked certain qualities as well, but in his opinion it was the place on an experienced hero to help those who didn't have quite as much work towards becoming better.
So here, Grayson stood atop one of Bludhaven's tallest buildings, coincidentally it was the Wayne Tech. branch that he ran, waiting on Phantom to arrive. He had instructed the young hero to bring no extra weapons, not even his sword. This night's patrol and training would be strictly limited to hand-to-hand combat. Nightwing had of course followed these rules as well, but should anything get too hairy there was a small cache of bat-weaponry that the older hero stashed nearby.
Arms crossed over his chest, and blue insignia, Nightwing waited patiently for the younger hero to arrive. Nothing had seemed to be particularly out of order that night, or at least not by the Bludhaven standard to which Grayson had become accustomed to over the last couple of years. So it was likely that tonight would be a quiet one. Of course, there was always the off-chance that some type of non-standard criminal would rear his or her ugly head, and the pair would have to deal with it. But internally, Nightwing had decided unless lives were at risk, weapons would not be needed. A bank could go robbed tonight, Dick would be able to fix it afterwards if need be, and hey, it wasn't as if the surplus from his own considerable trust fund and stock earnings were doing anything useful anyway.

Blake bounded from rooftop to rooftop, heading towards the location Nightwing prescribed. It was different without his gear. Without the weight, he felt naked. He was already running late as it was. The occasional police siren could be heard as the boy neared his destination. The smell and sights kind of reminded him of home. A memory that he is both fond of and proud to be out of. As a shadow in the night, the ninja landed in on the rooftop without making a sound. Blake walked up to the trainer and stood straight up. "I apologize for the truancy," Blake said with a slight bow. He waited for more instructions on what their agenda was for the night.
It has been a short while since he joined the team but he already knows that there is a lot he still needs to learn and is willing to obtain that information however he can. Although he has trained with Nightwing before, he still gets a little nervous knowing that he will be training with one of the greatest martial artists that he knows.

Letting loose a yawn, rather than to show boredom than exhaustion, though exhaustion would have been well-deserved on his part, Nightwing continued to wait for Blake. He saw the boy approach from several roofs away, and smirked a bit as Phantom grew nearer. Eventually, he arrived before the older hero, and gave the apology which made Dick's smirk grow a bit. "Wow, no need to be so formal, nobody from The League is around." Walking past the ninja while giving a firm pat to the shoulder.
"And besides," Nightwing continued, "you're not even late, don't count to the second when it comes to dates kid, you'll stress out much less that way." Perching himself on the edge of the roof on which they both stood, before stealing a glance back, "Live longer too." Grayson finished with before tipping off the lip. Plummeting downward at a speed which would have made most normal folk pass out, Dick enjoyed the perfect vertical decline for a few moments. The wind blasting through his black locks of hair, the air rapidly pushing against his face making it difficult to breathe, Nightwing still managed to smile in spite of himself. Adrenaline junky might have been correct, or even an understatement, but that didn't mean that he remained level-headed, and performed the appropriate actions necessary EVERY time.
Deciding that the timing was appropriate to cut that experience short, Nightwing repositioned himself by kicking his lower body under himself and towards the building that was parallel to the Wayne building that he had been standing upon just a few moments before. This motion made his feet make an arch that distinctly resembled the letter "C" and propelled the acrobat towards the space he would need to occupy, before resuming the diving position at something of an angle, forcing his arms out from either side to slow the downward decline by adding some additional resistance. Finding a pole which jutted from the structure he had been falling adjacent to, Nightwing extended his reach and managed to catch the metal rod.
The object gave way quite a bit at the sudden force that Grayson placed upon it, but managed to not break under his weight, allowing Grayson to swing while using the pole as a center to manipulate centrifugal force from, and correct his trajectory from a downward one to upward.
Flying briefly through the air, performing his famous quadruple aerial flip in the process, Nightwing wasted absolutely no time in retrieving the grappling gun, which distinctly resembled a slightly misshapen rod, and fired the machine's collapsible hook from its housing. Aimed towards the corner of a rooftop several buildings away, the tool expanded during its path of travel, allowing it to safely catch on the ledge. The metal cord went taught as he pressed the trigger on the gun which retracted the rope from its housing and sent the Flying Grayson on his new path of flight. Thanks to the momentum generated by his plummet and non-stop travel, Dick was still travelling at a speed that out-did a number of the cars below.
As his arch of travel ended each time, the black-haired hero would activate the mechanism within his tool to retract the hook and rope back into its housing. Following with another rather showman-ish flip each time, Nightwing would repeat the action, slowing down considerably as the travel continued.
Nightwing maintained this method of travel, keeping his pace fast, but not so fast that he would risk losing Phantom in all of his speed.
Eventually, the pair would reach a more dangerous part of Bludhaven, prompting Dick to veer from the larger street through which they made their way, and take to a more athletic means. Landing on a downward-angled power line, Grayson slid down the rubber covering for about half of the "tightrope's" length before leaping off of it, much of the generated momentum gone now, as he tucked and tumbled onto a roof.
Without missing a beat Nightwing rolled into a standing position and took off in a full run, moving from building to building in a similar manner to how Phantom had been doing earlier, but rather than keep full attention on where he was going or any particular destination, training more focus on the alleys and streets below. Any unusual activity was what he kept a stronger eye out for. Movement and alone individuals moving through weren't as much Dick's immediate concern, and even in groups if they moved together or seemed to be more like they were socializing than actually doing anything, he would look past them for the time, unless upon a later go-around they were still there.
Fifteen minutes of patrol yielded few results, until eventually there was an unusually large group of locals in a large cluster. Beyond the size, nothing would have seemed out of place, beyond the fact that they were facing the same direction, and gathering against a building side.
Knowing this was the cliche makings of a many-on-one mugging or even some type of gang-rape, Dick quickly shot a look back to Phantom and jerked his head downwards to indicate where they were to go, before leaping down into the alley himself.
Catching himself on the brick wall of each building, Nightwing hopped from building to building in a rapid back-and-forth that looked as if the two structures were playing ping-pong with one another. After some considerable descent by this method, Dick eventually found a stopping point on a lower-level of a fire-escape. Silently moving down the metal steps and levels, Nightwing managed to position himself directly above the unfolding scene. A group of roughly ten to fifteen men converging upon a single woman, clearly a street-walker, but still not deserving of this, especially considering how young she was, unlikely to be much older than seventeen.
Knowing that this would require little actual effort on Nightwing's part, he waited for Phantom to make the first move, intent on only keeping his patrol-partner from being overwhelmed by the numbers. Dick wouldn't fight this battle for Blake, it was to be a learning experience. Despite how badly Cross may or may not be beaten in the process. Sometimes that's what it had taken for Grayson to learn in his early days of heroics, particularly solo when he lacked his safety-net in the form of Batman.

Blake watched as the former robin flew through the air with grace. The ninja followed, leaping from building to building with ease. His strides covered several meters with each bound. Coming near a relatively large gap between the buildings, Cross used the lip of the rooftop as a launching pad to clear the gap, doing a flip in the air for a little added twist before sticking the landing and taking off as if he didn't leave the ground. As he watched Nightwing's gaze begin to focus more on the surrounding than on where he was going, Phantom realized that the area was becoming more and more hostile looking. Phantom kept a good eye on Nightwing to make sure he didn't lose sight of him.
With the nod from Nightwing, Phantom saw the large group of men that looked relatively discerning. As the duo got closer and saw the young girl, Blake knew she was in trouble. Dropping in front of her, the ninja took a fighting stance. Catching a couple of the thugs off guard, Blake kicked a few of them back, and round house kicked one in the jaw, knocking him out immediately. As the others caught sense of what was going on, they began to retaliate. As one of them came at him with a baseball bat, Cross rolled around him and shoved him into another thug, causing their heads to meet, the sound reminded him of knocking coconuts. They both slammed into a wall, knocking them both out. A new challenger came at him, but a swift kick between the legs, gave the man a little hop, dropping him straight to his knees with a groan of excruciating pain. Another kick knocked the man out.
The group was slowing getting smaller, until a gunshot caught the vigilante's attention. He turned to see a man smirking with a pistol pointed directly at Blake. The ninja threw another thug in the path, catching a second gun shot in his shoulder. Reaching for his grenades, the boy realized he didn't have any of them on him. Another gunshot went off, but narrowly missed the sprinting hero. Kicking up a trashcan lid, it deflected another bullet before Blake caught it and threw it like a frisbee. As a man grabbed him from behind, the ninja threw him over the shoulder, slammed him to the ground, then punched him in the face. The scream of the girl caught his attention as he looked to see another man holding a knife to the girl's throat as he used her as a meat shield. The smirk on his face showed that the man wasn't afraid to use the blade. Through the girl's tears, she mouthed "Help me."

Nightwing watched with approval as Blake managed to take out most of the criminals, with relatively little trouble overall. Though, the action with the trashcan lid brought a frown to his face, while it was largely a reflexive action, this much was abundantly clear, an improvised weapon was a weapon nonetheless. As well, the rebounding bullet narrowly missed the window of an apartment above the melee. This kind of reactive movements were important, but without discipline and control in all of your actions, somebody innocent could get hurt or killed.
It did seem that Cross was more than capable of handling them, something that didn't really surprise the elder hero too much. Of course, the numbers didn't overwhelm him as he handled the battle economically and this particular cluster simply seemed to suck. But eventually Phantom didn't manage to play though and plan every movement. As a direct result of this, the victim got snatched up, and now she was at knife-point. This would be a classic situation where Blake's weapons would have solved the fight for him, but not tonight, and if in a tougher fight he'd either burned through his gear or been disarmed, that would be the end for the young lady.
Dropping from his vantage point, Nightwing landed against the brick wall, placing his hands on the crock, and slid down the vertical surface nearly soundlessly. The hyperventhilation of the girl, as well as the deep breathing of both men prevented Dick from being heard by either. Landing behind the thug as if he came from nowhere, Greyson clenched the man's forearm, the one which had the hand that held the knife, and palmed the back of his head with his free-hand.
Turning his whole body clock-wise, the hero slammed the man into the brick by the top of his head, causing the relatively weak structure of the brick to shatter beneath his assault. The attack knocked the man out immediately, evidenced by his going limp as he hung from the building-side.
Shooting a glare towards the young woman, Nightwing barked, "GO!" Which was met by a cry of fear as the girl scrambled away with tears pouring from her eyes. Turning the same cold stare to Blake, clearly disappointed, though he said nothing directly as he pulled himself up into the fire-escape once more and climbed his way to the rooftop.

Harley was snoozing away in the back seat of the car. Today was the day she was moving to Budhaven, Gotham just had to many memories for her to remember. "Miss. Quinn....... MISS QUINN." The blonde jolted up gun in hand. "Huh what? who do I hava kill?" The woman had her gun pointed right at her driver, this caused the man to swerve in to the other line and back in to line. "We are here Miss. Quinn." The woman stuck her head out the window, she then squealed. "HOLLY MOLLY POLLY LOLLIE ITS HOME." the girl shot her gun off and laughed, crawling out of the car and sitting on the roof as her driver drove to her new hiding place the abandon fun house that was left by the old fair that left town a few years ago.
As the man parked the blonde jumped of the car and ran inside. "Home sweet fun house." As she made her way around the place she was more excited then anything. "Those movers of mine are amazing. Now I know I don't have to kill them. I wish they wouldn't have done such a nice job." Taking a seat in her place the woman thought about the Joker and how he was missing, she took years looking for him and finally she presumed he was dead and she was the next to take his place. Luckily this place of budhaven had never seen the lights of the clowns.
"Lets have a suprise party, Lets wake up the town!" The girl jumped up and grabbed her bat. "Let's make people smile just like my puddin does." Soon the group left the hide out and made their way to the middle of the city. The clown road down on a parade float driven by one of her henchmen. Other henchies surrounded the float and each were wearing a jester costume that made them look hilariously scary.
pulling out her blow horn the girl laughed in to it. "HELLO BUDHAVEN. YOUR PERSONAL HARDY HAR HAR HARLEY IS HERE TO MAKE YOUR LIFES MORE FUN. PLEASE, LEAVE OUT THE HEROES. BECAUSE IF I SEE ONE HERO I AM GOING TO KILL THE MAYOR AND HIS FAMILY." right behind the Cupid of Crime was the mayor and his two daughters and his wife. "AW MISTA JAY IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW." turning to the mayor she giggled. "Do you think my puddin would be proud of me? Iv have followed in his foot steps just like he would want me to."

Blake caught the cold stare and was immediately wondering what he did wrong. Climbing up after his leader, the boy followed him across the rooftops. Debating on whether it was the correct time to ask him or not, the boy opened his mouth to speak before hearing a gunshot go off. Looking in the direction and without delay, the boy took off to investigate. Using the night as cover, his black clothes helped keep him concealed. Bounding from rooftop to rooftop, he ducked behind an AC unit when he got close enough to the epicenter. Doing a quick double take, Phantom saw a crazy clown lady on a float.
Reaching for a throwing knife, he remember, all his weapons are gone. Looking at his mentor, the ninja decided hoped he had a plan that would allow them to rescue the hostages. He did a glance around, and theorized that if he could use the allies, he should be able to get close enough to board the float. But that would still put the hostages at risk. "Need me to distract?" he whispered. Even if he didn't have his gear, the boy would still do what he can.

Nightwing continued up the side of the building, until he'd reached the part of the structure on which he'd been perched earlier, keeping quiet for the most part. He couldn't actively scold the kid for using a weapon in the fight, as that wasn't really his place to do so. This was only a tutoring patrol, and there were no real grounds for him to do what Batman did for Robin as a boy, considering that there was no capacity of a mentor-protege relationship as far as Grayson was concerned. Realistically, though, he still felt the boy was crippled by his need for weaponry, improvised or otherwise, despite the fact that he possessed one of the individually strongest powers an infiltrator and scout could hope to have. If Batman, for example, could shift his density, or had any superhuman power for that matter, well the mere thought of that caused Nightwing to quake in his boots for a moment.
Of course, the distinct and familiar sound of Harley's voice reached his ears, and the thought of a low-threat criminal doing something would be a welcome distraction for the hero.
Flipping in mid-air to change his course, Nightwing made his way to mainstreet, in which there was a monstrous parade float which one could see from even the furthest reaches of Bludhaven. It only took a few brief minutes to catch up, and during the short trip Dick had run a collection of different scenarios in his head about how this could go down, and in most of them it resulted in a fairly easy win even without the weapons. But as a hostage variable was introduced, it became less and less likely.
Quinn wasn't stable in any capacity, and he couldn't rely on her "fun" lasting long enough for the woman to keep her captives alive long enough for Nightwing to reach his small cache of equipment in time. No, he and Blake were pretty much stuck with what they had at the moment, and would need to be concerned with freeing the hostages first and foremost. When Phantom suggested his plan, Grayson shook his head, "no, at the first sign of resistance she'll off the mayor, that's a given, instead we're going to have to use some finesse, and try to free that family before taking any action against them directly." Opening the hologram terminal in his bracer, Dick performed a brief scan of the balloon, looking for structural weak-points which would sabotage the object sufficiently to cause deflation, and a sufficient distraction.
Finding that this particular one was built with a metal frame inside, likely what was allowing the people to be standing atop it, he knew that puncturing it from the side would cause the tarp to collapse, and give them sufficient opportunity to snatch away the family before Harley could do anything to hurt them.
Leaping forward lightly, Nightwing latched onto the side of the float, and thrust his fist forcefully into the balloon's side. Running it down the stitching of the contstruct, severing every thread which held the piece together. This loosed a considerable jet of air, causing the float to deflate, and collapse. Nightwing only hoped that Phantom would follow his lead and move to save the civilians which were trapped in Quinn's control.

Everyone was watching, everyones eyes were on her and Harley was loving it. "Oh Mr.J how i miss the old times." The girl laughed, putting a piece of gum in her mouth. Skipping to the end of her float the girl threw candy everywhere. "WHATS A PARADE WITHOUT CANDY!" It wasnt long before Nightwing burst her bubble. "ITS NOT FAIR! ITS NOT FAIR!" The girl stomped her foot. "WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME. YOU GOODIE GOOD HEROES ALWAYS HAVE TO RUIN MY FUN. I CANT TELL YOU HOW MUCH YOU GIVE ME A HEAD ACHE." The girl shot her gun towards Nightwing, compleatly abandoning the fact that she had hostages. "YOU HEROES ALWAYS GET TO HAVE YOUR FUN, WHY NOT LET ME HAVE FUN ONCE AND A WHILE?"
"GET THOSE HEROES!" Quinn yelled as all the goons turned and started shooting at the masked heroes. Harley looking over and grabbing the Mayors daughter before she could get away she jumped in to the car and laughed. "Looks like girls night." The crazy blonde laughed and drove off leaving the boys and the floats behind with the goons. Turning corners and shooting at tragic the crazy clown smiled at the girl. "Hiya Kido, I'm Harley Quinn, the cupid of crime at your services. Wait wait wait now that's just not true. Your at my services." The girl laughed her loudest.
Back at the street the goons were giving the heroes a rough time. Each was given a shot gun and some other fun Harley toys. Though their seemed to be more goons for Harley then there was for the joker, perhaps that was because she didn't always kill them like he did. Most of the goons that worked for Harley were thugs who needed a place and she offered them one.

As the villian got away, Blake made a split-second decision. He took off after the car instead of staying to fight off the thugs. He could see several thugs point their weapons at him as he was running. Turning intangible, the ninja was able to escape the blasts. He kept up after the car, refusing to let it leave his sight. When the gunshots from the car caused the other drivers to swerve and slam into each other, the boy turned tangible again. The first car was coming at him, but he used it as a spring-board, launching himself farther down the street. When he landed, Phantom rolled to prevent any damage and to keep up the pace. As a truck came sliding sideways at him, Blake dropped to his hip and forearm, sliding under the vehicle.
His eyes were dead set on the car, refusing to let the creepy clown girl get away. Seeing his opportunity, the ninja used a car, bent lamp post, and an awning as a staircase, allowing him to get on top of the buildings. He continues to run after the car, but now he was out of the way of the cars. A gun shot from behind caused him to look over his shoulder. Apparently, he was unable to leave the thugs in the distance as well.
Using the space provided, he started to defend himself. Another gunshot, but it missed horribly. Blake double kicked the thug in the chest and used a back-hand spring to put himself back on his feet. Another thug put Phantom in his sights and pulled the trigger. CLICK. The weapon jammed. The weirdly dressed man pulled out a knife to take on the boy. Blake smiled at the sight. A weapon he could use. Grabbing the man's wrist with one arm, he punched the elbow with his other and in the same motion, slammed his elbow into the man's jaw, knocking him out and taking the knife.
He wasn't sure if Nightwing would approve, but at this moment, his thoughts weren't on the reaction of his mentor, only getting the girl back safely.
